Governmental Agencies Demand Facilitators Certification in Anger Management

Probation Departments, violence prevention programs, after care school programs and other organizations that fund Anger Management Programs have suddenly decided to require providers seeking grants to provide anger management to be Certified Anger Management Facilitators (CAMF).

Surprised freelance anger management providers nationwide are now seeking Evidenced Based Anger Management Curricula as well as training in Certified Anger Management Facilitation.

In response to this new reality, Certified Anger Management training providers are now offering certification in major cities in the U.S. as well as Canada. A goggle search will show trainings in Los Angeles, Atlanta, Miami, San Juan PR, San Diego, San Jose and Toronto Ontario Canada.

Anger Management Coaching As A Nice Income Stream For Counselors

Many LCSWs, MFTs, LPCs, Psychiatrists, Psychologists and Substance Abuse Counselors have and continue to provide anger management “treatment” without training, curriculum or content. In fact, anger management is neither an elective nor a required course in the training offered for any of the professions listed above.

Unfortunately, doing your own thing relative to anger management is not producing income nor gaining recognition from mental health, social service or substance agencies. Probation, Parole and the Criminal Justice Industry has now begun to demand “Certification in Anger Management” (CAMF) for organizations seeking grants or contracting opportunities to provide anger management to at risk youth, incarcerated defendants as well as paroles participating in reentry programs.

Many agencies and non-profit organization are losing contracts that have been long standing based on their failure to recognize the value of “evidenced based” anger management programs.

After considerable pressure from the American Psychological Association, the Group For The Advancement Of Psychiatry decided not to define anger as an illness. Therefore, anger will not be listed as DSM diagnosable disorder in the new DSM 5. This means that counseling, psychotherapy or process groups will no longer be accepted and a realistic response to problems in “impulse control”.

The most recognized and most endorsed anger management curriculum includes the Bar On EQ I Emotional Intelligence Assessment along with  client workbooks in Spanish and English based on self-awareness, self-control, social awareness, relationship management and skill enhancement in “impulse control”. This curriculum is popular with HR, volunteer and court referrals when offered in a coaching format with good results.

Finally, anger management coaching is not under the control of Managed Health Care. This gives Certified Anger Management Providers freedom to control the fees charged. With a minimum of ten clients enrolled in one class, with a fee of $25 per session, it is reasonable to receive an average of $250 per hour with no reports nor billing nor humiliation from some Managed Health Organization.

May Marks An Incredible Month At Anderson & Anderson

May 2012 marks a major shift in marketing the Anderson & Anderson Anger Management Facilitator Certification. Beginning in May, we listed all of our trainings on our website for May, June, July and August. This simple strategy is working well in all locations.

Bryan, my son and I are currently in San Jose California where we have just completed our first day of training. It is worth noting that three of those in attendance are from Canada. In recognition of our increasing popularity in Canada, we are planning to train in Ottawa in late August.

We have scheduled trainings for Los Angeles, San Diego, Seattle, Atlanta and San Juan PR. We are working to schedule trainings in New York City and Albany in September.

We are excited to announce that we will soon beginning offering Coaching for “disruptive physicians” for Kaiser Permanente in Oregon. This announcement comes at a time when our referrals of physicians are up for On-line trainings. George Anderson will be training in Hawaii on June 29 and in Pennsylvania the following week.

While in Oakland for the May training, Bryan and George met in Oakland, CA. with Mrs. Jill Reed, MTI, who is Director of Development for East Bay Children’s Agency. Anderson & Anderson is collaborating East Bay on a grant from Alameda County for the development of a special curriculum for young adolescents males who have experienced trauma that may have lead to over or misdiagnoses leading to inappropriate treatment.

Please send us your suggested listing for our website to George Anderson at georgeanderson@aol.com.
